Busy weekend? Hope the wet weather doesn’t interfere…
Because who has time to waste…with the holidays here. Chanukah starts
On the 8th…
Im thinking you may still have a lot of shopping to do…at least if this story is right that on Black Friday 6 out of ten people bought things for themselves which means just 4 out of the bought gifts for someone else.
That’s okay though because I think the better prices are still coming.
And I love the story on Amazon. If you order something that costs over $25, they ship it free. The WSJ put it to the test. They ordered the heaviest item on Amazon..a 1,672 pound fire safe. It cost about $3500 and yep…Amazon shipped it free. They ate the $700 shipping cost.
You have any good shopping stories?. You know me…I love to hear or read them
Lots of shopping…lots of fighting…
Hey, its Christmas….Lets put the two together!!
Half of couples admit they hate shopping together
And they hate it so much they actually fight.
A few have even gone out shopping and come back broken up!!!
A little drastic if you ask me…
But here they are…the top ten things couples fight about while shopping :
#1.) Is the item "needed"?
#2.) Taking too long to decide.
#3.) How much someone's spending.
#4.) One wants it, one doesn't.
#5.) Visiting a ton of stores, then going back to the first one to buy something.
The list you’ve longed for….the best time of day to do things. Stole it from Real Simple Magazine….
Get a haircut at 8:00 A.M. You want to be the first appointment of the day. That's when your barber or stylist is fresh, and by definition, can't be backed up with other appointments that ran long.
--Return things to stores at 10:00 A.M. When stores open, they have the best ratio of staff to customers. It's the best time to get service with the fewest other people in the store getting in the way.
--Take a flight between 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. That's when there are the fewest weather delays, and it helps you avoid the airport rush.
--Take a nap between 1:00 P.M. and 2:30 P.M. That's the time that works best with your body's natural rhythms. And the nap should last 15 to 20 minutes. Once you pass 30 minutes you'll feel even groggier when you wake up.
--Clean the house at 4:00 P.M. That's when your coordination is at its peak and your mood is the best.
--Ask for a raise at 5:00 P.M. You want to talk to your boss when they're the least rushed and least likely to get distracted, and that's at the end of the day.
--Do cardio between 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. In the early evening, your lungs use oxygen efficiently, you're more coordinated, and your muscles are warmed up. Exercise is also an excellent stress reliever from the day.
--Walk the dog between 8:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Dogs view walks as their FUN. Walking your dog at night lets him enjoy the smells and sounds he misses during the day.
--Read something at 10:00 P.M. With the way your brain is organized, that's when you're most likely to retain information.
And what time is the best time to listen to Sam and Lissa?… Yep, Real Simple missed this one..
Thank you Dr. Oz!!! The five weird things his website says can make you sick at a restaurant!!!
#1.) Ordering a Steak Well Done. There's also a chance of getting sick if you order it RARE. But the more they cook the meat, the more it hides the natural flavor.
--And if you order a steak well done, some chefs use an older cut of meat, because they need to get rid of it and know you probably won't notice.
#2.) Ordering the Buffet. Despite the 'sneeze guards' they usually have, they're a breeding ground for bacteria, partly because the food doesn't always stay hot enough.
--So if you're going to a buffet, you should try to get there right after the new food goes out. For lunch, that usually means noon. And for dinner, 5 p.m. or earlier.
#3.) Using a Tray at a Fast Food Restaurant. Apparently they're FILTHY, because they don't get washed enough. And when they ARE washed, it's usually with a dirty rag. So if you want to be safe, always get your food to-go.
#4.) Getting a Refill of Water. At a lot of restaurants, they only wash the pitchers once a day, and it's usually at the end of the night. So throughout the day, they can accumulate a lot of germs.
--That doesn't mean you should have a PANIC ATTACK every time a waiter refills your water. But watch to see if the pitcher touches the edge of your glass.
#5.) Asking the Waiter to Pack Your Leftovers. They don't always wash their hands before they do it. And since they're handling money and dirty dishes all day, it's safer to just ask for a box and do it yourself.
So where are we meeting tonite? You know what I say…”Still better than cooking at home”. My food alone can make you sick!!!! http://www.facebook.com/SamVanZandtKBAY

Let the countdown begin…
What is it?…29 days till Christmas.
Chanukah is on the 8th…so 12 more days.
I think next year Chanukah starts Thanksgiving weekend.
And how many days till New Years? 36
Oh..and 69 days until the Super Bowl!!
And just who will be starting at quarterback for the Niners…LOL!!
Don’t get me started….
Got to get the Christmas tree…Although mine is in a box and I may not put it up this year. What a scrooge I am!!! It’s just me and the animals and heck right after Christmas I’m actually going to Thailand…so why bother? Let me say it again….Lissa Scrooge! I think more accurate would be I’m too lazy to have it out for just a few weeks.
Everyone of course has their favorite place to get their Christmas Tree. I’m happy to see that SummerWinds which lost its Almaden location to fire back in October has opened up a tree and holiday lot at their Almaden site….So happy to see them coming back…And they did such a good thing after that fire….with their 3 day fire sale and donation drive ion the parking lot..they raised close to 15 thousand dollars that they gave to the San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation and the Los Bombers of Northern California That is very very very cool!!! http://www.facebook.com/SamVanZandtKBAY

Here are the 10 people you'll encounter on Thanksgiving from TheFW.com.
1. The Drunken Uncle. There's always one relative that uses any excuse --whether it's a funeral or child's birthday --to get schnockered. Keep an ear out for this dude; he'll probably make at least a dozen extremely offensive comments.
2. The Terrified Boyfriend. Lots of people bring their new love home for the holidays, which can be tricky. Families are --as a rule --pretty crazy and the new person will have to endure quality conversation with people they don't even know.
3. The Couch Sleeper. Look out for tired overeaters and remember to keep a camera handy for those embarrassing pictures.
4. The TMI Grandma. This lady bakes wonderful cookies and has no filter whatsoever. Beware --you'll probably hear intimate details about grandpa and a nasty rash that won't go away.
5. The Uptight Aunt. This woman is trying to balance turkey, gravy, potatoes, six other sides, 20 guests and feeling the pressure. She could blow at any second so keep any smart remarks to you and compliment her seasonal decor.
6. The Leftover Hog. This is the person that feels no remorse taking home five turkey legs, two dozen rolls and an entire pie.
7. The Thanksgiving Food Hater. This special someone can't stand traditional fare, but always shows up to sulk and probably has no problem with the adult beverages.
8. The Person Who Stuffs Themselves Silly. This poor soul has no control when it comes to a buffet and will keep stuffing their face until nausea kicks in. Yuck.
9. The Football Fanatic. Having a game on in the background is very American, but this sports fan is zero'd in on the tube and won't say a word to anyone the entire day.
10. The Health Nut. This is probably a middle-aged mom that brings fresh fruits and veggies, a tofu turkey and gluten-free rolls. Be nice to her --she means well and won't take the last slice of pumpkin pie.
If you missed it this morning here’s your calorie count for Turkey Day
--Six ounces of turkey, with skin. 299 calories.
--Sausage stuffing, 310 calories.
--Dinner roll with butter, 310 calories.
--Sweet potato casserole, 300 calories.
--Mashed potatoes, 140 calories.
--Green bean casserole, 110 calories.
--Cranberry sauce, 15 calories.
--Roasted vegetable, 83 calories.
--Slices of pumpkin and pecan pie with whipped cream, 919 calories.
--So that's a total of 2,486 calories . . And that number doesn't include any drinks, appetizers, SECONDS, or anything else you'll eat that day. Whatever….keep eating and enjoy!!!!
Looked in the mirror lately?
All I saw this morning were bags under my eyes!!!!
Oh…and a few other things. .LOL!!
So my public service to me …and you
Top ten foods for beauty (yahoo.com)…..too bad I only like half of them. Maybe you’ll do better!!!!

!
The other night believe it or not I was at at a table of 4 people…and three of us were left handed…I think we might be taking over…LOL!!!
Dana Jang send me this today with the headline “we’re gaining ground”
Actually he heard it from John Tesh who we have on weekend mornings.
Seems 100 years ago, only 3% of us were lefties.
Today, it's at least 11%. What’s the deal? University College London thinks the increase is because most parents no longer try forcing their kids to use their right hand anymore…
Whatever the reason..it’s good enough for me and Dana…
Lefties Unite!!!!
So ready for the weekend..what about you? Although tomorrow night, I will be emceeing Couture Funding A Cure at Westfield Valley Fair to benefit the American Cancer Society
You can get more info if you’d like at www.couturefundingacure.org.
Have you been to Valley Fair lately?
They’ve been moving stores around to put them into “groupings”
Stores are near stores that are more like themselves like Pac Sun is near Forever 21, Microsoft is near Apple and they’ve made a “Luxury Wing”…yes…it’s the high end neighborhood of Valley Fair…with pricey, fancy brands like Tiffany’s and Burberry.
Yes, not my idea of everyday shopping …but they’re fun to walk by and window-gaze…
And you and I can do that and even more Saturday nite. I emcee a lot of events as you know…but this one will be different….It’s Couture Funding a Cure to benefit the American Cancer Society. The new stores will be unveiled, there will be a fashion show. They’re even putting me into a gorgeous expensive outfit, and there will be a special guest from Project Runway…along with cocktails , hors d’oeuvres, silent auction and entertainment other than me tripping on my heels.
Wonder if anything will come from the uproar over the Turkey Day “Dessert”
Openings by some of the retailers…basically turning Black Friday into Black Thursday.
Actually, I wish they were serving free dessert..that may get me in the door!!!
But its enough for me that Sam and I Black Friday will be doing our s how at the Great Mall from 1-5. I’ll just go a little earlier and get some shopping done…Might as well multi task..LOL!!!
It’s the Target opening at 9 that has gotten some employers mad..one so mad she has 200thousand signatures so far on an anti opening petition. A Target VP says the 9pm opening versus the 8pm opening of WalMart and others is a “perfect balance”.
Will dragging employees away from the dinner table pay off for the stores? Most say yes….that the average shopper plans to spend more this year….$749 ..about ten dollars more than last year. Doesn’t sound like a big increase but times that by tens of thousands of shoppers..and yes the answer is yes!!!
It’s the National Enquirer..so who knows if its true..although do remember they were nominated for a Pulitzer Prize!!! This one though I’m guessing is true… the story that there is a lot of sex going on off the dance floor at Dancing with the Stars.
We’ve all wondered this season about Kelly and Val.. Seems so obvious…but a so called production source says “ The number of affairs has gotten way out of hand. There’s been so much casual sex behind the scenes that you’d think it’s a swingers club, not a dance show”.
They posted a rundown of some of the alleged hook-ups.
See if you can remember thinking about any of these over the seas
--Derek Hough: Shannon Elizabeth and Maria Menounos
--Julianne Hough: Helio Castroneves and Chuck Wicks
--Mark Ballas: Shawn Johnson and Sabrina Bryan
--MaksimChmerkovskiy: Karina Smirnoff, Willa Ford, Erin Andrews and Peta Murgatroyd
--Cheryl Burke: Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, Drew Lachey and Rob Kardashian
Any other couples you suspected?
I just hope there’s a doctor on staff!!!!! And maybe a therapist too!!!
I am now officially in the holiday mode…
I bought several small presents over the weekend…
And are you like me and they automatically go into one particular place in the house.
The so called “gift storage” closet!!!
Not such a secret hiding place, but since it’s just me, the 2 cats and the dog I am safe!!! Where do all your holiday gifts end up? Same place every year, right? And just how many times have you forgotten where you hid something..and have to go buy another gift? Tis the season…ho ho ho!!!
I read somewhere this morning, that Halloween is the new unofficial lick off to the holiday shopping season. You think that’s true? While I’ve started shopping, I’m certainly not organized yet. I have yet to write down the names of everyone I buy for. Plus I need to start keeping a list of what I buy for Victoria and Christina so I end up with equal numbers of packages. Funny all t he little tricks and or rules we make for ourselves.. What are your basic rules for shopping and just how do you work it when you have kids.. How do you keep it fair?
You know me..I love hearing “shopping”stories!!!
BTW…how else do I know we’re into the holidays? Sam and I will be at Santana Row for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting tomorrow nite…and tomorrow we start handing out our KBAY Holiday CDs..Santana Row tomorrow…and then various places all over the Southbay, starting Wednesday.
In case you missed it this morning…and need to know how to have a “perfect” day…
This is what a survey of 900 women ended up with. It’s hard to get past the second one, (we couldn’t stop laughing) but once you do…..it sort of makes sense:
--Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.
--106 minutes of INTIMATE RELATIONS.
--82 minutes of face-to-face socializing.
--78 minutes of relaxing.
--75 minutes of eating.
--73 minutes of prayer or meditation.
--68 minutes of exercise.
--68 minutes of watching TV.
--57 minutes on the phone.
--56 minutes of shopping.
--50 minutes of cooking.
--48 minutes on the computer.
--47 minutes of housework.
--46 minutes of napping.
--Only 46 minutes of taking care of the kids.
--Only 36 minutes of work.
--And 33 minutes of commuting.
BTW,,it adds up to a little more than 24 hours.. I guess they rounded up!! Or put too many minutes into that second “item”…..he he!!!
Who buys this stuff?
Looking at the Walmart toy catalog and for the bargain price of $25 you can
Buy a Dr. Dreadful Alien Autopsy Set. You pack the blue aliens innards with edible candy slimy things to be excised and enjoyed. The deathless prose” Create delicious alien eyeballs and lung bugs! Bubbling alien guts move on motorized alien stomach. Looks gross, tastes great”
How about just buying a creepy crawlers set!!! DO they still make those?
Or maybe just a Barbie!!!
Cant believe the stuff they’ve come up with and that people buy it!!!
Ever get your child something you swore you would never ever buy? Can’t wait to hear what it was?
BTW…this could help you buy a lot of toys. The KBAY Christmas Club is opening.
Make sure you go to KBAY.Com. Don’t want you to miss out!!!
Look at this..of all the new shows on TV….not a one has cracked the top ten in the ratings.
Same old..same old.
NBC Sunday Nite football
NCIS
60 Minutes
NCIS-LA
Big Bang Theory
Dancing with the Stars
CMA Awards
Person of Interest (is that one new?)
Two and a Half Men
The Voice
Does this one interest you? ABC is working on a tv drama about surfing.”The Break” will be written by the gal who did The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants…and be about a 16 year old girl who is forced to live with her father in Santa Cruz where hes part of the surfing community.. I like the Santa Cruz part but not interested in the storyline…Sorry!!
This one sounds good though…a new NBC show called After Hours.
Will take place in the hospital emergency room during the middle of the night when all the weird cases come in. Wait …wasn’t that called E-R? Still sounds good and since this the last season for both Greys Anatomy and Private Practice…why not.
You ever watch Millionaire Matchmaker? I do sometimes and always think where do they find these people? I don’t know what it’s called but my friend says there’s some sort of dating service very similar here in the Bay Area. No need for me…as you may know I have found my Mr. Right…and yes I waited a long long long time to do so.
But if you’re still looking for Mr. Right and would like one with a lot of money…I saw this from a sugar daddy matchmaking website called SeekingArrangement.com. The 5 things successful guys(making over $250k a year look for in a woman:
#1.) Communication skills: Misspellings or inappropriate abbreviations in emails or texts are a deal breaker. 53% of the men preferred actual spoken communication to online.
#2.) Posture: 78% of the men said that if a beautiful woman slouches or hunches over when she stands, it makes it seem like she has bad manners and low self-confidence.
#3.) Her walk: 26% of men said that a woman should look graceful when she walks.
#4.) Sense of self: A woman that exaggerates her knowledge of current events, politics, or culture is a turn-off for successful men.
#5.) Hair: It should be well-groomed . . . and not an unnatural color.
HMMMMMM!!! How about we ask what a woman would like in a successful guy. I like that question better!!!!
Food glorious food. Sam and I got through the Monday morning by enjoying National Donut Day, the anniversary of Cheez Wiz and the birthday of the Pillsbury Dough Boy…One thing led to another…must have been the sugar and before you knew it we were reading the Dough Boy’s obit!!! Terry asked me to share it on Facebook so here it is…Enjoy!!!!
The Pillsbury Dough boy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Dough boy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butter worth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Dough boy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.
Dough boy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was crusty old man and was considered a roll model for millions.
Dough boy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
Another busy busy weekend coming up…
But at least we’re finally done with Halloween.
This year, it seemed like the preparation went on forever!!!
Hard to believe 3 weekends from now we will have stomachs full of turkey…and
Shopping bags full of Christmas gifts.
Yes…Thanksgiving is the 22rd and Black Friday is the 23rd. Sam and I will be doing our show from 1-5 at the Great Mall…
Wish we could slow the clock down… although we do turn it back an hour tomorrow nite. I’m already lovin the extra hour of sleep.
Might we run into each other this weekend. Sunday, I will be at the Villages for the annual Girl Scouts Volunteer Recognition Event.. One of my favorite events..I love honoring these special people…
And Sam tomorrow nite with his wife-Carol—and our local sales manager Clinton Box and his wife Christina will be competing in the Junior Leagues annual Silicon Valley Trivia Challenge.
And you..what are you doing? Did I hear “recuperating from Halloween”?
If you’re like Sam and me….and have lots of candy left over because so few trick or treaters showed up…you can of course take it to work..or you can take it to the Candy exchange today….sweets for treats from 3-30 to 6..
Two drop off locations.. at the Childrens Dental Center of San Jose at Tropicana Center 1153 S. King Road in San Jose or the Childrens Dental Center of Sunnyvale 897 W. El Camino Real. All the candy they get will be given to Operation Gratitude which assembles care packages for troops overseas. Great idea!!!!
First 5 Santa Clara County actually set this up to encourage your kids to exchange their Halloween candy for different types of treats. If you’ve never heard of First 5 , its a great agency here that focuses on the health and safety of kids…and of course “too much sugar” and obesity is one of their big issues.
SO bring your kids down with their candy…they get a goodie bag and also for every pound of candy…they get a raffle ticket. And at the King Road site…theyre going to have music, games, face painting and story time from Potter the Otter! Our kids get so much candy they can part with some of it..especially with it all going to our troops!!!
