The last thing my colleague, co-worker, and treasured pal, Dennis did before his brain injury in 2006 was walk to his car to come to work here at KBAY. He'd just finished a nice Thanksgiving dinner at a co-worker's home. A heart attack robbed him of his incredible wit and verbal ability.
Dennis survived his coma and vegetative state to the point of walking with assistance and speaking in sentences after only a month or two. Then he was placed in state-run long-term care. Sadly, he slid downhill over the years even though we tried our best to get him specialized care.
You have mixed feelings when you find out a great friend like this passes away. Dana Jang told me that Dennis's heart stopped yesterday morning. It's a very sad day for those of us who held out hope for Dennis, but a relief that he's not suffering anymore.
You may know Dennis. He was a major radio star here in the Bay Area, broadcasting his wild shows from KOME and KSJO. You knew him as Dennis Erectus. I knew him as one of the most enduring friends ever. If you'd like to attend his memorial, email me jhamilton@kbay.com or watch for a post on my Facebook www.facebook.com/jonadenz
